We invite you to join us for the UW Dialogue Initiative: Seattle Campus Conversation on October 22nd in the Husky Union Building (HUB). We are mapping constructive dialogue efforts at the UW as a part of Campus Compact and the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge's Campus Discourse Challenge, an initiative designed to strengthen and scale civic discourse efforts across higher education.
The University of Washington’s Provost’s Office launched the UW Dialogue Initiative in 2024 in part to help UW students develop skills that promote meaningful discourse. Public universities are one of the few places in our society where people can choose to come together across differences to solve problems. Only through this type of productive engagement can we solve common problems that we cannot solve alone and collectively impact the health and flourishing of our campus and the world.
This event will allow us to connect with campus partners at UW Seattle to identify ongoing, parallel, or complimentary programs, classes, and efforts that promote dialogue and civic discourse. We invite you to attend and share your thoughts, awareness, and current engagement as we map our collective efforts.
The convening will be held on Thursday, October 22nd from 9:30-11:20 am in HUB room 332. If you are able to join us, please RSVP here to let us know. If you are only able to attend part of the gathering, we still invite you to stop by when you can and let us know what efforts you are working on or aware of.
We are excited to have Allison Briscoe-Smith join us to share reflections about dialogue education efforts across the country. Allison serves as the Diversity Lead of Student Life at the University of Washington. She is a Senior Fellow at UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center and Resetting the Table and serves on the Research Advisory Council of the Constructive Dialogue Institute.
